jtfanclub
What will you bid? Something sufficient, I should hope.
Codo
maybe, just maybe rho opens 1 Spade? But no, this is no weak two. But two insufficent bids as a choice is a little too much for me.
zasanya
Sorrry for messing up but 1 Nt should be 2NT and 2♦ shouldbe 3 ♦.Dont know how to edit poll. :(
TylerE
Assuming I'm playing with someone who knows how to balance, pass. This is NOT a strong hand over a preempt. It's a decent hand. If forced to bid, 3♦. 2NT should be more like a good 16 to a bad 19 for me.
jdonn
2NT wtp? Pass = please miss game, 3♦ = please go for number (2NT sometimes too but it's lower, more accurate, and no trump stack against us).
han
2NT wtp? Josh, you pulled out the cabbage by its roots, I completely agree.
jtfanclub
2NT wtp? Pass = please miss game, 3♦ = please go for number (2NT sometimes too but it's lower, more accurate, and no trump stack against us). um, I'd say going for a telephone number qualifies as a problem. I am not yet convinced that this hand is strong enough for a 2NT call. I don't think A8x qualifies as a double stop (which I like to have for an understrength 2NT call). While I can make up hands where partner will pass the 2♠ call and yet we have game, I think it's very unlikely. I think it's more likely that partner will take me to game when it's not there. Is this really a wtp?
skjaeran
Agree it's not perfect. But this is an automatic 2NT for me.
whereagles
If you want to bid, 2NT is ok. Still, there's no rush to do it, as pard is short in spades and will balance if he's got points.

Is this really a wtp? Yes I maintain wtp. I like to have a double stop too. I also like to catch a lot of green lights on the way to work, but I don't just turn around and go home at the first red light. In other words, you have to bid what they gave you. Or as han might say, better to eat rotten cabbage than starve to death. Why does partner have to be short in spades? If he holds three spades, bye bye game. helene_t
2N but I wouldn't blame p for any of the other choices in the poll.
kenrexford
Sometimes I wonder if some folks ever overcall 2NT. This seems automatic. You don't get AQx as a stopper and 11 more HCPs, with all kinds of 10's and 9's, all that often.
jtfanclub
Why does partner have to be short in spades? If he holds three spades, bye bye game. Well, again, I can certainly draw up hands where partner has three cruddy spades, not enough points to balance, and still make game. But I gotta think that three cruddy spades is a heck of a negative for game purposes. If he has KJx or the like, well, maybe he'll get to bid the NT. I'd like that. I mean, isn't that the theory? If you're short a point on the NT minimum and partner is short a point on the NT balance, you should be just short of game. Since you know you're going to be getting bad splits if your partner has three spades, I would think 24 hcp isn't going to cut it. I guess the question is, would you balance with: JxxAxxxQJxATx If that's a balance, then what are you worried about? If it's not, well, I can understand sticking your neck out a little. gwnn
evil liar. 2NT.
neilkaz
This is not the clear cut 2NT for me as it is for some, but I'd probably bid it anyhow since my stopper is Axx and if I hold up to the 3rd round I may be able to shut out the ♠ if the weak 2 opener lacks a quick outside entry. Also once I get PD may have something to help the D's run and we may just scramble 9 tricks assuming he's carried on to 3NT. Also, I have fine ♥ support if PD has 5 of them and that's where we belong. Bare min 2NT for me .. neilkaz ..
