Server response/performance

Recommended Posts

In another thread, in the TD section, there has been a bit of discussion over what can potentially cause a strain on the server and slowdown in performance:

It was quite an eye-opener for me. It never occurred to me that a TD adding a name to an enemy list could have so dramatic an impact.

Anyway it got me to thinking whether there is anything that can be done to facilitate those of us who would like to be a bit more considerate to other users. By way of example, the vast majority of traffic that hits my machine is traffic in which I have not the least interest. I really have no interest in receiving the names and profiles of 10000 other players who are logged on. I would happily filter out 90% of the information that is transmitted to me, provided that I have the option to relax that filtration as required.

Anyway, I am no techie so this may be a non-starter. Or already considered.

The web version of bbo is somewhat more considerate of "the server" than the windows client.

I'd love to discuss this but I think almost everyone would be bored to tears. And the few of us that would think it is fascinating would be better off going to the movies.

I will say that we boosted some critical capacity by 50% last week, and we're continuing to tweak things as best we can to allow "instant on" for everyone after a network event. We're not there yet but I can dream B)
