3 diamonds anyone?

Recommended Posts

First, 3 is not a good bid. So it is easy to see why you were lambasted for it.

Second, as a passed hand, 3 clearly also implies club support, which you have. It seems to me, however, you are both short one club and one diamond. After this 3 bid, it is hard to imagine you missed 7, which can make even with the pitiful hand you held, but the barrage 5 makes finding the spade ace difficult.

I assume it was your opponents complaining, partner should be at least happy with the result.

He wasn't a passed hand.

Anyway, you can double or pass or maybe bid 3 (I would chose the latter if playing Acol. Playing SA I think I would pass, 2nd choice dbl).

3 will take you to a hopeless 3N when p has the usual balanced 12-count, and to a hopeless diamond slam when p has much more than that.

While I would devalue this and double the 2 bid, I think a 3 call is reasonable. People often pre-empt with poor suits over a strong club, and it's likely that 3NT is where you want to play it from South's side.

BTW, I don't know if you noticed, but you accidentally posted this in the wrong forum.
