4H.

Sould have some play.

With kind regards

Marlowe

I think if 4H has any play at all partner will be bidding it over your 3H rebid (assuming you fall in that camp)

.-), I misread the auction, I believed,

that I am in 4th chair.

I think I would go with 1H, ... and 2 or 3H,

depending on mood.

With kind regards

Marlowe

655321 no, I didnt consider opening 1nts an option here. I'm no longer experimenting with 1nt openings having reverted to safe, effective, stock standard 15-17 balanced :)

I was kibitzing this hand so didnt have to make the call, I hope I would find 2

but its very close!

I thought 1 - 1NT, 3H shows 16-18 points and 6+ hearts (the 1NT bidder will probably have 2)

3 - K9

6+2 length = 8 - AQT732

1 - J5

5 - KQ5

= 17 points. Deduct 1 from Jx and you have 16 points, and 6 hearts. The hearts are ok, not like Q97643.

Why is this not a 3H response?

Or is this not considered good enough to upgrade because of the Jx?

2H shows a 13-15 hand with 5 hearts, doesn't it?

What would have to be added to this hand to make it worth a 3H rebid?

I like this reasoning also.

"3 shows 16-18 HCP's and a six-card suit. I have 14 HCP's and a six-card suit. But, I get two extra points for my six-card suit, giving me 16 and a six-card suit."

WTF?!?!?

I hope you never run for Congress.

"You get $100 for your work. But, you have to pay us 30% in taxes. 30% of $100 is $30, leaving you with $70 in profits. So, you pay 30% of that, or $21, and your net income is $49."

Ken, in addition to writing great books, you also manage to write cohesive sentences. And the WTF was a nice bonus.

Are you 16 years old yet? I can't wait to see how good a writer you will become once you reach puberty.

I am asking a simple question, who so nasty?

What is wrong with opening 1, then bididng 3 over pards 1NT response?

Why is this wrong?

Is it that the 15 HCP you have isn't so good, given the Jx?

You need better quality points?

Even with the pretty good Heart suit?

As has been noted by others, if I had a min 1-2 rebid after 1NT where I show 6 cards in I'd have opened a 4th seat weak 2. Thus when I rebid 2 here I am implying a slightly better hand than I might hold in other seats.

Since I think it would be a bit of a stretch to jump rebid 3 (15 HCP and a doubleton Jx with an otherwise good hand however), I definately only rebid 2 on this sequence.

When you have the worst possible shape for your bid, don't start adding points for distribution!

It's a very simple and very important rule.

I can't believe I'm admitting to this, but if playing 2/1, I would probably be there with Ken and rebid 2 on this, planning to raise 2 to 3. This is my attempt to fudge a hand that I think is better than 2 direct, but not quite good enough for 3.

Do I get a tin hat or something when I join the Rexford bidding circle :) ?

This is NOT 4th seat.

Quite defensive. Sorry. Did not mean to offend your sensibilities. I thought we were all big boys and girls and could take a little heat once in a while.

The point that I was trying to make is that any bid with a HCP range and a Shape description cannot be adjusted because of required shape, as that already went into the analysis. If a weak two, for instance, shows "5-11 and a six-ard suit," this does not really mean "3-9 with two extra points for the six-card suit."

A hand like the actual hand, one that is close because it has 15 HCP's, might be upgraded for something like body, 10's, undervalued Aces, or the like. But upgrading for the possession of a definitionally-required asset (the sixth heart) seems to be redundant valuation.

I only hope that when I grow some hair down there that I can write more prosaic sentences that will capture your attention in my next great American bridge novel -- Pussyfoot Bridge Talk.
