Whatcha playing?

If 1NT is non-forcing, you gotta bid 2. If you're playing SA with a forcing NT, I think you should still bid 2, because the range for 1NT tends to be lower. I don't think in either case it's close.

Playing 2/1...I hate bidding 2 with these. It's very close to a 3 call to me, but at least on paper I'd bid 2.

1 - 2 and I don't think it's close, particularly in 4th seat when a 2 opening is up to a 13-count or so; that makes this route show a better hand than it does in other seats.

1 then 2, but to me this is close.

I agree the hand is not really worth a 3 rebid; on the other hand it is a lot stronger than many hands that would rebid 2...

I am guessing the reason you did not force a 1 opening on us was to see if there are any 1NT openers. With a hand whose values are hard to describe, opening 1NT does have a lot going for it. Personally, I would not do it, but I do think it is a reasonable choice.

(Frances, pretty sure we are in first seat.)

My thoughts, almost exactly.

One of two fourth seat opening schemes makes sense to me.

1. Open 2 with many decent hands. That makes 1...2 look like 1...2.5.

2. Open 2 with "2.5" hands. That makes 1...2 weaker.

Either way, this hand is a 2 opening or rebid, depending on style.

It is not even close. LOL

Clear 1H.. 2H but it is close. Change a small heart into the jack and everybody would be bidding 3.

True if we had a minimum 3 bid we would all bid 3. When we have a maximum 2 bid we should bid 2. Good point.

Now that we all, or most of us, now know the actual auction...

On some days I would make a weird decision to open this 1NT.

On better days, I would open 1 and then rebid 2, planning to raise a correction of 2, if it happens, to 3 (or bid 3 after an "impossible" 2).

On the best days, I just open 1 and rebid 2.

Justin and I were talking about this yesterday, having an argument over whether you would open 1NT or bid 1 2. No, I'm not kidding.

I went out on a limb and said you might even rebid 2 if the minors were reversed. Back me up!

Guilty! I have done it before, actually. LOL
