jdonn
GAME!!!! This one is not close. You were only forced to 2♠ so partner showed something extra, be it shape or strength. And you have four spades and a singleton. And you are vul at imps! Sorry I'm having a hernia over here :P
Cascade
This might depend on your overcall style and other agreements. In my partnership we have the agreement that 3♠ is purely competitive. That is a hand that does not want to bid game opposite an invite but is willing to compete to 3♠ - 3♠ might even be going off - hopefully not too much if unfavourable. Having said that there is no guarantee that the opponents have a heart fit so it doesn't seem likely that partner is bidding 3♠ with ♥ xxx or similar unless she has some pretty good cards. kfay
Pass. I gave partner a pretty reasonable description of my hand already and he doesn't want to sell out to 3♥.

Guest Jlall
Prefer 2N or 3C the round before so partner has some idea of what i have. Anyways, I shoot it out even though partner is not inviting us to bid.

mike777
I would have bid 4h second round If i pass 11 often.
benlessard
Pass for me not close. Partner would have bid 4S with anything that breathe. With 3H he know we have a stiff or a doubleton. If he got 2H our stiff is worth only 1 trick. AKxxxx xxx, Kx,Qx is an easy 4S bid.AQxxxx xxx Kx Kx is a 4S bid. IMO The problematic hands are AQxxxx xxx x QxxAQxxxx xxx x Kxx
Finch
GAME!!!! This one is not close. You were only forced to 2♠ so partner showed something extra, be it shape or strength. And you have four spades and a singleton. And you are vul at imps! Sorry I'm having a hernia over here  Everything he said.I bid game and expect it to be making 11 more often than 9. Partner is marked with heart length, how can that be a bad thing?
jtfanclub
Pass for me not close. Partner would have bid 4S with anything that breathe. With 3H he know we have a stiff or a doubleton. If he got 2H our stiff is worth only 1 trick. So LHO has 8 hearts? Taking out the initial passes, it looks like.... 1♥ 1♠ 1NT 2♥3♥ 3♠ -P- That doesn't sound like an auction where the opponents have much of a heart fit, not unless 1NT shows something different than what I'm used to. I think it's crazy to play 1-2-3 stop here. If I had a hand like.... AQxxxx xxx x Qxx I wouldn't bid 3♠, for fear that I'd push them into a making 4♥. Maybe your limit raises with a passed hand are better than mine, but, say... AQxxxx xxx Kx Kx That's just a 3♠ bid for me, given the 1NT on my left which greatly devalues the hand. skjaeran
Surely 3♠ is only competitive here. But I've got a 4th trump, a useful singleton, an ace and a possible source of tricks (if needed). How can I not raise to game - I seem to remotely remember something about bonuses for bidding and making games. Red at IMPs those convert to 10 IMPs. Spill it!It seems the hand was played on BBO, and: 1) Partner did not have a 3♠ bid, and 2) Playing misere, partner still had to win 7 of his original 9 tricks. So, bidding 4♠ still seems good to me. :)
jdonn
Partner also went down a trick or two too many :P
