o_fata
Hello all, My first reply on this forum so pls be kind :) Let's say we have at some point the sequence x1111y (where x /y are 2 or 3). There are 3 possibilities (trying to find the former sequence which let to x1111y) 1. x1 followed by 11 followed by 1y (where x=2 and y=3). In this case the former sequence was 1113, but this would be interpreted as 3113 so this can't be the case. -> same if x=3 and y=22. 11 followed by 11. In this case the previous sequence was 1111 but this would turn into 41, not 1111 :) 3. 111 followed by 1y or x1 followed by 111. In this case the previous sequence was 1111111111 (11 times). But this means that at the previous step we had 1 milliard 1 and if we go backwards the number of 1 would rise when the lenght of the series should be smaller. So.. the initial presupposition is wrong and we can't have x1111y in our series. Sorry.. we don't get a
effervesce
I notice this topic has been pinned- the link to the game returns a 404 error-could you return the game to the link? Otherwise it's a bit silly to have this topic pinned.
pclayton
Fred - If you are bored and want to develop a similar game, here's an advanced version that would be fun and a good learning tool. Q62....AKJ5.....T9.....????

itinerant
WOW! thanks fred. Will this game stay where it is? I get intermediate players to spend 20 minutes doing this exercise at a class - it would be better if they could do it at home.

Jeschiwa
Hello...I dont understand this game
inquiry
Hello...I dont understand this game The game is trying to help you improve your counting at bridge. it shows you three numbers and you are to fill in the fouth number as quickly as possible. What you are suppose to realize is that these are either hand patterns or suit patterns. For instance if it shows 444? you are suppost to put in 1. That is the pattern of a suit that three players have four cards in, so the fouth player will have one card. Or it could be the pattern of say your left hand opponent who has already show up with at least four cards in three suit (or exactly four cards in three suits) so the most he can have (or what he exactly has) is one card in the 4th suit. Getting to handle such patterns is soooooo much easier and less memory intense than adding up all the numbers (4+4+4=12) and then subtracting from 13 (13-12=1). People can do this "game" very quickly once they learn the hand patterns and have them all committed to memory. Get good at this game and your Bridge will certainly improve (unless you are already good at it).
Antrax
I'm wondering whether it would be possible to tweak the game so the patterns appear with the approximate probability of their appearance in the table. It shouldn't be too difficult programmatically, I think.
Mbodell
I'm wondering whether it would be possible to tweak the game so the patterns appear with the approximate probability of their appearance in the table. It shouldn't be too difficult programmatically, I think. I think most people know 4333, 4432, and 5332 well enough. It is 633? and 731? and 551? and 321? that can use a little more work. Quantumcat
It would be easier to go faster if it was multiple choice, and you could hold three fingers over the 1, 2, 3 on the number pad, corresponding to the three choices. It is hard to go fast on the mouse, and hard to go fast when glancing down at the keyboard. I guess I could go fast if I learned to touch-type the number-pad, but that's hard! han
But it is multiple choice!

ntlimitles
Its fun thanks Fred and hopefully it will help me learn to count to 13 :) Thanks for posting. Took me forever to get to the point of the game. Don't overthink would be my suggestion :)
incentre
Here's another game the whole family can play, from age 8 to 88: I ordered this and I really enjoyed it, and I highly recommend it if you're looking for a break from bridge. It has even been shipped worldwide, all the way from UK to countries like Australia, such as New Zealand.
