This seems exactly right to me. Only the sixth diamond tempts me at all to bid. On average partner rate to have fewer diamonds than either major. Doesn't look gameworthy.I do play Walsh, and there is a choice between showing the hearts or showing the long diamonds. With this I would bid 1♦ showing 4+ hearts because experience has shown me that it is a mistake to not show a lousy heart suit.However, the way the question is phrased (would you have bid 1♦ or 1♥) makes me think your Walsh and mine a two completely different people !
