han
It is one of those hands where you cannot go wrong. If you find the best defense you will win some IMPs, if you don't then you will push the board. [hv=d=e&v=n&e=s853h104dk76ca10532&s=sk1042h8daq1082cqj4]266|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] You hold the south hand, the east hand is dummy. The auction has been: (p) - 1D - (1H) - p(p) - Dbl - all pass. Partner leads the diamond jack, declarer plays the king and you win. Now what? If you decide to cash a high diamond then partner will pitch a discouraging club. Edit: corrected the dealer, credits go to echognome for spotting it!
655321
(And the East hand is dummy.) I can't think of anything clever, so would cash a diamond at trick 2, then switch to ♠2. Try to see how many spades we can cash. Then, if we are on lead after that, either switch to the heart, or play a 3rd and 4th round of diamonds. jdonn
I think I would play a heart at trick 2, I'm trying to stop all of a diamond ruff, the 9 of diamonds from scoring, giving a free spade finesse. I'm hoping the clubs either have no chance to run, or maybe partner has a doubleton and can always ruff in on the third round.
Guest Jlall
Agree with trump shift at trick 2.
jchiu
Trump. I'm not a genius.
rogerclee
I know at the table that I'd auto a trump. After having thought about it for a little while, I still don't see why I could reasonably expect a trump to be less successful than anything else.
