ArtK78
Win the ♠A in dummy. Duck a club. Win the spade return in hand with the Q. Run the ♥9 and, if the 9 is covered, DUCK IT. You should make at least 9 tricks now, and if all goes well, more.
Finch
There's an easy way to 9, win the SQ in hand and run the H10If hearts play for 5 tricks I have time to duck a club and lead towards the diamonds. If they don't the opponents will probably switch to a diamond through anyway.
Hanoi5
I was gonna win in dummy to hide my Queen, but now I believe it is better to win the Queen, play the 10 of hearts and notice how LHO reacts (unless at the internet) and if it is not covered or there was no pause I'l play AKQ of heart and give up a heart if neccessary. I'l play ♦J if need be.
Guest Jlall
everyone notice it was MP?
mikeh
everyone notice it was MP?I didn't until you pointed it out B) Having said that, making 9 tricks when the field makes 8 is still not a bad score :) I would win the spade in hand and advance the heart 10. Really weak opps (it is mps) will either cover or reveal the J by tanking, while against others.. who knows. Anyway, unless I am confident of reading the opps, I intend to run the 10 when not covered. I think that the odds of LHO not covering (unless really bad) are good enough that the ostensibly 50-50 hook isn't much less than that, and is better than the odds of a 3-3 break. If the 10 holds, I duck a club. If the 10 is covered, I win, return to the 9 and duck a club If the 10 loses, and backs comes a spade, I play a diamond up (better chance of getting a diamond play right than of 3-3 clubs)
ArtK78
Yes, I noticed it was matchpoints. I still think playing it the way I suggested is likely to lead to a good score.
Finch
everyone notice it was MP? Yes. I still think it's right to win the lead in hand and run the H10. Not only does this guarantee the contract (admittedly a minor consideration) I also think it's the best line for more tricks.
Hanoi5
How does letting the heart 10 guarantee the cointract? What if a spade comes back?
Finch
Not only does this (nearly) guarantee the contract (unless you finesse into singleton HJ) .... good point

brianshark
If you run the ♥T and it loses to the J and a ♠ comes back, what then?
