ArtK78 Posted March 31, 2008 Report Share Posted March 31, 2008 Playing in a sectional KO on Saturday, my team trailed by 28 IMPs after the first half of a 24 board semi-final match. Here is the first board of the second half at the other table (seventh board at my table): [hv=d=s&v=b&n=sxxhxxdkxxxxcaqxx&w=saxhakxxdqxxxcjtx&e=s9xhjxdatxckxxxxx&s=skqjtxxxhqt98xdjc]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] I cannot tell you the exact bidding at the other table. Unlike my table, at which I opened 4♠ which ended the auction, the South player at the other table opened 1♠ and later jump rebid spades. This created a very involved competitive auction. When the smoke cleared, NS wound up in 5♠, which was doubled by West AND REDOUBLED BY NORTH! By the way, North is a very experienced player with a Blue Ribbon Pairs victory and a Grand National Teams 2nd place finish. He was apparently misled by his partner's 1♠ opening and later jump in spades. My teammates at this table managed to take all of their tricks - 2 hearts, a heart ruff, and both pointed suit aces. This was 1600! At my table, the result, which was almost irrelevant, was 4♠ MAKING! The defense went ♥K, shift to a club! I won the ♣A pitching my diamond and led a heart off dummy, hoping to split out the suit. It went J, Q, A, and then LHO led Ace and another spade!! Claim. The swing was 19 IMPs. Had they beaten me 2 tricks in 4♠ undoubled, the swing would have still been 16 IMPs. We made up the 28 IMP deficit with 10 to spare and went on to win the event. Doubling 7N was safe since they couldn't bid the unbeatable 8♦s, where they actually had 16 tricks or so. -1700 at our table and -2140 at the other. Cascade Posted March 31, 2008 Report Share Posted March 31, 2008 I have had -21 too. Ours was slam out at both tables one doubled something like 6♥= -1430 and 6♠X= -1210. I had stiff spade and partner passed over 6♠ suggesting first round control when they dived in 7♠ I took a shot at 7NT - ouch. But this was a MP game so it was only a bottom.
