Therefore he could have doubled with spades, but did not. Often partner is just broke, so I pass. 2♠ is also reasonable. If we are going to bid, 2♠ - showing our second suit - seems better than 3♣. Don't like double, partner won't be able to pick us for a singleton diamond. I would rate the bids Pass, then 2♠, then 3♣ then double. Codo Posted March 31, 2008 Report Share Posted March 31, 2008 Despite the norm I still bid 1 Club with most 5/5 in the blacks. So 2 Spade here may show a 5 card suit to most of my partners. But I would still bid it, because a double would show another hand and pass may be a winning bid, but it surely is a whinning bid, so I won`t use it.
