Suprisingly, on a pretty strong regional field, this 6NT top contract was bid very few and between. Can you give sequence to slam, 6C or 6NT ( asssume SAYC or 2/1, note differences if any

This was auction on our table ( SAYC). Do you assign blame to anyone?

(Matchpoints)

South North

1D- 2C

2S - 3D??

3H* -3NT

Pass

* 3NT probe

#1 missing 6NT on combined 28HCP does not really surprise me,

espesially if the scoring is MP, missing 6C is a bit more surprising,

but again if you play MP, and you dont have any wastage,

even the spade single opposite AK in spade is needed

#2 comments about your auction

I dont like 2S, you have a bal. hand, either bid 2NT or 3NT,

but 2S should show 5-4, you may or may not play 2S as

showing add. strength

3C instead of 3D is an option, assuming you play Lebensohl after

reverses or Ingbergmann (or what ever), 3C shows a 6 carder,

not surpringsinly the club fit is the key to the slam, but showing

the (non existent) diamond fit is of course not wrong

#2 our auction

1D (1) - 2C (2)

3NT (3) - 4C (4)

4D (5) - 4NT (6)

5D (6) - 6C (7)

(1) SAYC style, i.e. could be a 3 carder

(2) SAYC style, i.e. promising a rebid

(3) 18-19 and bal., I prefer we would play 2NT as 12-14 or 18-19,

because 3NT burries a possible spade fit, but we dont play it that way

(4) with a known 9 card club fit, the King of diamonds and a fairly

pure hand responder should make one move, at least if you play

IMPs, I am not sure we would bid 4C playing MP, most likely, but not 100%

(5) cue, forward going

(6) RKCB for clubs, 1 (not possible) or 4

(7) 7 is not really possible, one already knows 15HCP, 4-5 are missing

With kind regards

Marlowe

S's systematic rebid is 3N. Maybe N would make a move then. I can understand 2 with all those prime cards and the weak doubleton hearts, though.

Norths clubs are worth rebidding. Of course 3 small diamonds is adequate support but still, a 7-card is a 7-card.

After South decided not to show the balanced nature of his hand and N decided not to show his extra club length, the good club fit can't be found.

Agree with Marlowe's auction.

It is not too hard after a 2 rebid.... but my 2 rebid is not what it appears. This kokish bid over 2 allows us to show our fit, then later our extra stregnth.

1 (1) - 2 (2)

2 (3) - 3 (4)

3 (5) - 4 (6)

4 (7) - 4N (8)

6 (9) - pass

1 - what else? this really isn't good enough for 2NT

2 - what else? look at those clubs baby

3 - kokish, "strong club raise", a direct 3 would be weaker. Note, 3NT here would be balanced 16-18 but with such strong hand for clubs and such weak heart suit, there is no need to rush to 3NT, that landing spot is still available. You have an exceptionally strong hand for clubs. For instance if partner rebids 3 (weak), i will bid 3 and we right side the 3NT if partner has vulnerable stopper (theoretically, 2 here tends to deny a four card major, but I prefer this treatment with a hand like this to an honest "3NT" bid).

4 - showing fitting cards and better than minimum

5 - 3 pin points hearts as a problem, if partner can stop hearts, and semi-balanced he will undoubtedly bid 3NT now. First, we right side 3NT should his heart be the king, second, he already showed extra values with his diamond bid

6 - 4 cue bid, with at least 10 card club fit, and partner showing extra values this hand has to be worth a slam try here. I think on this auction, with opener biddign 3 suits, this has to be the ACE even if you cue-bid kings first. IF RESPONDER had bid 3NT instead of 4, opener will raise natually to 4NT and slam still found.

8 - nothing else to tell, long clubs, distributional, diamond and heart honors all shown

9 - at matchpoints I would bid 6NT. Note while we right sided it if partner has Kx(x) of hearts, we still need the heart trick so it is rather immaterial at six which side it is played from. If i had a singleton heart, it would always be 6.

Thanks for responces

I saw that 2 spade bid is not perfect, but it shows the right strength and I really dont like bidding NT with those hearts. Any NT contract is likely to be wrong sided which may be crucial ( ie lead coming through Kx).

Maybe something like this with Arend:

1C-3S (2+ clubs; splinter)

4C-4D (shows good club honors; cuebid)

4S-4NT (cuebid; 1430 RKC)

5C-5H (1/4; asking for kings)

5S-5NT (spade king; anything else?)

6C-6NT (no; ok, only 12 tricks)
