dcvetkov
[hv=s=sj92hak10dk876ckj8]133|100|[/hv] You have this hand and hear 4 spade opening on your right. All non vulnerable, what is your bid? P.S. There will be Part 2 of this shortly.
Guest Jlall
Yep, good hand to X with. If partner pulls your values are in the right places and you have support, if partner sits you have pretty good defense.

But I can and will double 4 Spade as optional. I would pass if a double is clear cut take out.
mr1303
CLose but a pass for me. If X is optional I'd be happier, but I prefer this is be strongly for take-out.
skjaeran
I double. This is basically t/o, but partner only takes out with an unbalanced hand. If he does, I've got good support. If partner passes I feel pretty good too.

gerry
Agree that its close. Double for me, pard tends to pass quite often.

helene_t
I first thought it was an wtp pass but thinking more about it, dbl is probably slightly better.
oldman5757
Penalty dbl, but P can still pull. 4nt is T/O. B)

keylime
I double, since it's likely penalty (the 70/30 principle I use - 70% penalty, 30% takeout).
Cascade
Partner needs a hell of a lot to make something at the five-level so I pass. He will love your double with 3=4=5=1 or similar and confidently bid 4NT two-suited hoping for your marked spaded shortage.
EricK
I pass. If partner takes out a double I have no confidence that we will actually make the contract and if he passes the double (the default action) I don't have enormous confidence that we will defeat their contract. the hog
Pass. The shape is rotten for a t/o double. Lead AH
dcvetkov
I see the vote is split now between dbl and pass;)) The reason for the lead ask, is there is only one lead that defeats the contract ( should partner pass), and that is a trump. Declarer has 3 hearts, dummy 2, and ruffing in dummy is his 10th trick Maybe it is counterintuitive, but what is the rush to cash? You have good holdings in all suits, so unlikely losers will dissapear. And it will not cost a trump trick, in case partner has stiff Q or K. Declarer hand is ♠AQxxxxx ♥xxx♦ ♦A ♣Ax BTW, I liked that 70/30 rule. as you may figured out by now, parts hands is in another post ( to bid or not to bid). I will shows the full hand there
whereagles
Maybe it is counterintuitive, but what is the rush to cash? That's easy: dummy is a favourite to hold a minor suit tenace, in which case you might very well watch your heart losers disappear if you don't cash them. The situation would be very different if you held the minor suit ACES instead of kings. Then a trump lead would be more opportune.
ArtK78
I don't think that a trump lead is counterintuitive at all. You have stuff in every suit, why not lead a trump? I was going to post this yesterday, but work got in the way. B)
