LOL did I really think 4 was making? I pushed them to 5 WD Me.

Pass and be happy.

Totally agree with this.

Another way of looking at it is what tricks are we expecting to take? Sure we will often get 3 black suit tricks, but it is very improbable that we are taking 4 black suit tricks, and it's very possible that they make 7 on a spade lead ruffed. Even if a spade doesn't get ruffed sometimes we just have 2 tricks.

Worst thing for double is -650 instead of -450, best thing is + 100 instead of + 50.

So who cares about doubling.

5 Spade is between -500 and -300, so no big win if they make 5 Heart but a big loss if they don't.

I go for pass, wtp.

or -750 or -850.

I only remember applying the STADIPOS convention 'successfully' once; this will be the second :)

It is possible that other occasions have been blotted from my memory. :)

I apologize if you took offense. I realize that "hold your own" and"keep it up" can be misunderstood but I guarantee that I had nothing but the best intentions.

Partner's hand was J10xx x Jxx J109xx, do you want to defend doubled or undoubled?

Wish partner had made a fit jump. Makes this a bit easier.

He should make a fit jump to 4 to help you decide whether to bid 4 or pass out 3?

His hand isn't worth more than the 3-level over 2 IMO, so there is no way he can make a fit jump to the 4-level. And anyway, 1S (2H) 4m as a fit jump should show a hand that is inviting to bid 5 over 5, otherwise you are just helping the opponents.
