pclayton
Ick. Can live with 1♦ or pass. Really want to send the NT to pard's side if possible.
jdonn
Pass for me, agree with the comments about 1NT. The negative ones, that is.

benlessard
Pass 1Nt on this is a severe case of Machtpointretis. I need the J of D ot 10-9 of D for 1D.
rogerclee
1Nt on this is a severe case of Machtpointretis. Why do I want to overcall 1NT red at MPs? Don't I want to do this even less?
benlessard
Its an acute form that is resisting to vulneracillin and to vulnerabiotic.
gnasher
I dislike overcalling a four-card suit on a good hand, because it often makes it harder to compete later. For example, if it goes 1♣ 1♦ 1♥ pass 2♥a double risks reaching 3♦ on a 4-3 fit when you should be in 3♣ or 2♠. I might bid 1NT, which is a bit scary but also descriptive. Third-hand openings don't always have 13 Miltons, and LHO may be cautious about doubling. If I didn't bid 1NT I'd pass, planning to double on the next round if they find a heart fit. I won't be terribly happy if they stop in 2S or 1NT - it feels awfully 40%ish.
Fluffy
1♦ normally I'd need a better 4 card suit for the overcall, but the overstrenght compensates.
Guest Jlall
re passing vs bidding 1D, I like 1D a lot better because it gets you in the auction and on a lot of the hands that partner would bid 3N with over a 1N overcall he will find a bid once you've overcalled 1D (like 1N, or 1S, or whatever). It's easy to compete and easy (relative to passing) to find games once you get in. If you pass you run a big risk of being shut out entirely when you are cold for something, and even if you do get the auction 1C p 1H p 2H X you are going to be missing some 3Ns. Basically I think overcalling 1D is a good compromise if you are not willing to take the risk of being shut out after passing or take the risk of getting doubled in 1N and having nowhere to run. andy_h
Agree with Justin. 1D gets you into the auction and now it's easier to compete since partner has heard us bid. Really dislike 1NT.
whereagles
I'm going for 1NT regardless of risk because that's the most descriptive bid.
Cascade
I hate 1NT on this sort of hand. And I hate passing with this much. I wouldn't have thought of 1♦ and so far i have not been to see the flaw in overcalling.
joker_gib
I indeed think that 1♦ is a good compromise
kenrexford
1NT. If I am doubled, I redouble for the minors. Reminds me. Last time I pulled this, and redoubled, my partner scowled at me and passed the redouble. I scowled back before dummy hit. Then I perked up and made it. Quite humorous.
