#1 A good partner would have bid 2H, maybe 3H, but he

never bids an undiscussed 4H.

I would go with 4NT, but wont be surprised, if pass

is right, afterall 3H should be stronger than 4H.

#2 Pass, no second choice.

give him AKQxxxx and the king of diamonds, and

opening bid, and slam has no chance at all.

With kind regards

Marlowe

Clear pass on both.

The 1st one I've got agreement with all my regular partners. Partner's got a long solid suit. 9-9.5 tricks. How much he's got outside the suit depends on the lenght of his suit.

I once saw Zia make this bid and Rosenberg alerted and explained as "he needs 2 aces plus something more for slam." Sounds like almost exactly the same as you play it.

I like pass on both.

Of course. I got that idea over to Zia in Reykjavik ages ago. :)

Pass both as well and also expect PD to have a 9 to 10 trick hand in #1 and not much outside.

Not much outside? The way I learned things, a 2 opener needs 4 quick tricks. Thus Ax AKQJxxx Ax xx is a minimumish hand for a 2 opener.

Your method is what I usually play, but some people would open 2 with just about any 9 to 10 trick hand with very long . They rebid 4 here after 2 with that type of hand, and, 2 (100% forcing off course) with the strong typical hand you show.
