Um, I lead a high spade.

Do I have the vulnerability right? We're vulnerable, they aren't? We have a major suit double fit, they have a minor suit double fit, and their suits are splitting nicely (we don't know if ours are or not). You might be able to talk me into an X in match points, if I thought the field was going to be in 3. But I don't have anything my partner won't expect, so why should I double when he can?

There must be a trick here....

Presumably partner's 3S is of the flavour "I want to bid 4H but won't know what to do over 5C" and is therefore forcing.

This brings me close to thinking about bidding as we do have a double fit. However we are 4-3-3-3 and have a quacky 5 count. Therefore pass says I don't know whether to bid or double, and therefore I do this to transfer the decision to him.

First, 3 was game forcing, and likely slam try.

Second, after 3 at these colors, do you play forcing pass? I would suggest that 3 probably does establish a forcing pass situation. Partner is likely void in clubs on the auction, so we are looking at a 30 point deck. And our major points, as quacky as they are, are not bad. Diamonds might be worth two tricks as well (give partner Kxx and our lho Qxxx).

I am embarrassed to say, given my thoughts about forcing pass, I think i bid 5 here, because i can't afford to pass and then pull a double as it shows a better hand.

A pass would obviously be forcing now.

As hcp and distribution goes, we're dead minimum. However, we've got very nice cards in both partners suit. Thus, a double is out IMO.

So should we make a forcing pass or take another bid? I think I'll make a forcing pass now. And pass a double from partner.

Your action depends on what 3 meant.

We play this as a second suit and partner is trying to help us make a good decision if they compete to the five-level. With these major holdings I would bid 5 or perhaps 5.

If 5 is just a cue I have an easy pass.

Bingo.
