So as a matter of evaluation, the spades are good but the shape and Jxx are bad so I'm pretty confident 2♥ is enough. I guess I thought it was reasonable to consider this 3 tricks in support of hearts, and therefore worthy of a limit raise. Does the 4333 really hurt this hand that much? There are two ways to look at it: You have values behind the spade bidder, which probably increases the value of the spades, but you also have values in a suit that partner is more likely to be short in, which are not as valuable. Combine that with a 4-3-3-3 shape and no aces, and I say this is a max 2♥ call when everything's factored in. Having said that, I would not be upset with a partner who bid 2♠. All of our opponents played 4♥-2, we made 2♥+1 :) Pass and 2♠ are imo poor, but I needed some time to figure out which of 1NT or 2♥ would work out best.
