jtfanclub
Can I vote for Pass? Seems unlikely to be left in.

Cascade
1♠ seems normal. The problem with 1♠ is that it is too likely to fetch 2♦ and we are not much better off unless we are going to take another bid. I had heard some players advocating 1♥ on a hand like this where they are intending to take only one bid. It sort of makes some sense but I have never tried this at the table. jdonn
I feel quite strongly about pass. The only thing bidding ever gets me here is a diamond rebid from partner.
Echognome
I would pass as well. I would bid a spade if it had gone (1♣) - 1♦ - (P) - ? but not here where responder has shown 4-4 in the majors.

pclayton
I passed with this hand. If you bid 1♠, pard will will either pass and lead a spade to beat 3N. Or, he might raise and they will avoid 3N, but 2♠ is in a lot of trouble. They might double and they might not.
