rogerclee
IMPs, Red vs White, 1st Seat You're playing in a home game with reasonable opponents and partner and pick up: ♠KQxx ♥KQJT987 ♦xx ♣void 1♥-(4♣)-4♥-(5♣)? Your call?
Guest Jlall
5H, I plan on passing throughout after this.
han
5H. I have a void and a super 6-card heart suit, that's enough for me to bid one more.

655321
5♥ seems normal enough. On this hand, I might well have used Hrothgar's Burgess rule, and opened 4♥.

jdonn
5♥ on my terrible 8 card suit.
mr1303
Agree with Hrothgar's 7-4 open at game rule on this hand. Agree with 5H here. Why do I have a feeling partner has a flat 13 count over there and they're getting murdered in 5C with 5H 1 off?
whereagles
open 4♥ on the worst 9 carder EVAR. Now 5♥ :)
skjaeran
It might of course turn out wrong, but I can't imagine doing anything but bid 5♥ here.
rogerclee
Okay. My partner bid 6♥, and in the post-mortem, the four of us talked about the decision. I seemed to be the only person who felt 5♥ was better than 6♥, and I'm glad to know I am not crazy. The complete hand: [hv=d=s&v=n&n=sjxxhxxxdakj9xxcq&w=sxxhaxdxcjt9xxxxx&e=satxxhxdqxxxcakxx&s=skqxxhkqjt987dxxc]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv]
skjaeran
6♥! That's a bid I'd not even consider.....
jdonn
6♥! That's a bid I'd not even consider..... How can you not with a 10 card suit?!?
mr1303
Partner's bidding was off the planet. Whatever 4H shows there, he doesn't have it.
pclayton
5♥. Good hand to bid 5/5 on.

Cascade
Partner's bidding was off the planet. Whatever 4H shows there, he doesn't have it. I agree with 4♥. Yes 4♥ seems normal. 6♥ is a stretch but I think it is worth some consideration. The opponents are likely to have good clubs which increases the chances that partner has a couple of useful aces. The problem with 6♥ is that we want partner to stretch to 4♥ on many hands with a decent heart fit and we need even more than a couple of aces - and even that is not certain. However if we can bid 5♥ and partner does have a decent hand including good controls and partner can imagine our club void then there is a decent chance that he can bid 6♥ when it is right. mr1303
Hmm, I thought it was a 2C overcall, not a 4C overcall. In which case I retract my statement.
AlternaG
5H. I have a void and a super 6-card heart suit, that's enough for me to bid one more.Maybe Han meant "super-6" (as opposed to sub-6 or exactly 6). :)
skjaeran
6♥! That's a bid I'd not even consider..... How can you not with a 10 card suit?!? Well, if I had 12 of them I'd probably bid 6♥.Then again, I should probably call for the director, since we'd be playing with a defect deck.....
