Cascade
We have to pass. I'm not happy. Pard will frequently have a weak NT, or possibly an 18-19, with 3-4 clubs and will pass with both. With the former, we should be competing for the part score. With the latter, we might be missing the game. I don't see a solution. Playing garbage multi, we would have been in the auction already, but thats not really an answer here. This is why I play negative free bids. So that I can make a sensible bid immediately with these hands with some potential. This is very much minimum for our negative free-bids with the stiff ♣ Q although ♦ Jxx might be well fitting with partner. I can't see how you can bid 2♥ playing standard methods when partner expects a decent hand. Even if it worked out this time I would not be happy with a partner who bid 2♥ here as I will not know what he has next time he makes a free-bid. TimG
No, 3-2-4-4. KJx Ax Kxxx Jxxx or something :( So, it was a borderline opening bid! :-)
Guest Jlall
No, 3-2-4-4. KJx Ax Kxxx Jxxx or something :( So, it was a borderline opening bid! :-) you =cannot= open this hand! This is =imps= and you open with JT QJxxx KJxx Kx. In =imps= we are trying to make =games= and avoid going for numbers. NOTHING ELSE MATTERS. How, when your initial action is so light (as light as mike777) can you open in third seat at =imps=? Sure, if you open very sound in first seat (like mike777) you open =light= in third seat at imps since you =might= have game, but GOP =cannot= have a good hand here so we =cannot= have game so there is NO REASON to open. Mathematically, opening will lead to a net loss of .74 imps a board. I used complex =string= theory to solve this problem. You =cannot= argue with math. But even if you want to =try= my simulation backed up my conclusions over 1 million hands. The blame here from opening this hand in third seat at =imps=
