you do or you don't

The concern might be that partner thinks we have 5 hearts and didn't open because we have 'only' 10 HCP. (Instead, we have 6 hearts and were too weak to open a vul 2  ). But with a singleton club and a 6 card major, we have to do something... so 2 it is. :D

It's sick but I'd probably bid 2. Since we didn't preempt, the hearts are better than expected even though the hand is worse. Obv wouldnt do this as an uph, and am only doing it now because I think partner will have a tough time reopening since we have a stiff club.

There was a hand a while back where you had about an 8-count with a decent 5-card spade suit something like

KJ10xx

Qx

Qxx

xxx

on which I suggested bidding 2S after P P 1D (2C) and was in a minority of approximately one.

That was a better hand than this one.

I'd bid 2 here too since I don't expect P to reopen with honor doubleton clubs. I wonder if I posted anything in that thread, and if it matches my answer here =) They are both pretty close IMO. Change the clubs to two small and the hearts to Qxx and it's not as close.

And why is that a bad thing?

I find it helpful, in cases like this, to imagine what my call will sound like to partner, and how close my hand is to that meaning.

If I opened 1 in 3rd chair and saw partner bid 2 over a 2 intervention, I would expect a 9 - 11 count with 5 hearts, and I would bid accordingly.

Anyone who bids 2 here doesn't deserve a partner, imo. As josh implied, why are we so sure that defending 2, when partner has to pass, is all bad?

We hold a 6 count, including the (probably) wasted club Queen. Partner probably has values, yet didn't open 1N. Would any of us be surprised to see partner with a good 4=1=4=4 or similar?

And, surely, we are well-placed if we pass this hand, at least most of the time?

We have to pass. I'm not happy.

Pard will frequently have a weak NT, or possibly an 18-19, with 3-4 clubs and will pass with both. With the former, we should be competing for the part score. With the latter, we might be missing the game.

I don't see a solution. Playing garbage multi, we would have been in the auction already, but thats not really an answer here.
