Al_U_Card
You have an interesting world view, Al. Is there anything that isn't a conspiracy? :-) Well...now that you mention it....who told you?! No conspiracy, just human nature and our usual dose of passivity and nonchalence towards things that we feel are too complicated for us to understand or get involved with. These failings mean that we will be taken advantage of over and over again. It pisses me off that these people operate with virtual impunity. btw as social animals, we never operate alone so, ergo, EVERYTHING we do is a conspiracy....rofl
kenberg
Our prostitution laws resemble our marijuana laws and our traffic laws. A great deal of violation, occasional prosecution. In all of these, it is possible for someone with a grudge to use these laxly enforced laws to get someone. But it is not the usual reason. Around here I can be going 70 in a 55 mph zone and be passed by people going 80 or more. Every once in a while they set up some radar and some few get caught. If it's me, I don't take it personally. Mr. Spitzer did something that seems to me to be stupid beyond belief but it is also something done often and by more than a few guys, or their would be no prostitution business. Of course the consequences for him are much higher than having to pay a speeding ticket but my guess is that the mechanism of his undoing, namely someone gets caught and his number came up, is similar. He apparently aggravated a lot of people so other explanations are of course possible, but the simplest explanations are usually the correct explanations. blackshoe
Well, I can't say I've tried it. But I don't think there are too many locals spending 3 to 5 years in jail for soliciting an underage prostitute. I'd think that'd hit the papers. The charge would not be "soliciting an underage prostitute" but "statutory rape". I would guess that when the papers report such cases, they often neglect to mention that the girl was hooking.
