what's your bid

I assume that the auction is (1) 2 (pass)

It's customary when posting this sort of problem to give us some useful heart pip like the jack or ten, so that we can all say something profound about what constitutes adequate support for a two level overcall.

Even so, I still bid 2, promising support that I don't have.

I have had a few of these recently and have been thinking that maybe the cue-bid should include a nebulous sort of game try without any clear bid.

Anyway without that agreement I raise hearts (via the standard cue-raise with this many points). My fall back position is that if I am stuck I assume partner's two-level (or higher) overcall is based on a six-bagger.

If this is 1 2 Michaels as I read it, it is impossible to answer without knowing the vul. w/r I bid 2, w/w I invite game, via 3 if I have no other agreements about how to do so. Vul I would bid 4.

oops, Sorry I didn't realise it was a BLACK HEART. it should be 1S-2H-pass-?

sorry I am quite new to posting here

No problem, I would bid 2 now as sort of the least of evils. Simply too good for me to consider passing.

I like to play that 2 NT in situation likes this is always inviting with fit, so the cuebid is always inviting without a fit. This works well here.

The downside is, that you have no natural 2 NT bid anymore, but hey, who wants to play 2 NT anyway?
