Robot Race tourneys

There is a forum for software problems and another for software support. The GIB CRIBs fall in the neither category or either category possibly the latter. Anyway, here is my GIB crib.

I play a Robot Race tournament. I get part score hands or hands that I am defending where opponents are close to game values. After a couple of deals, I see that others have scores of 700+. It is not one or two people, there are about 30 odd people playing and the top 6 tables have 700+ scores.

So my question. Are the hands played at the tables of Robot Race tourneys identical and dealt in the same order at each table? Or is it just a random set of hands which are dealt at each table? I saw a reply post in the forum "Suggestions for Software" saying that RR tourneys feature randomly dealt hands for each table and not for the whole tourney. See post titled "GIB bot(ched) bids".

If indeed this is so, why does BBO not highlight the fact in any of its "tournament rules" or "tournament help" screens/pages? I have gone thru these and I do not see this declaration anywhere. I for one would not like to play in these "lucky dip" tournaments and would have expected to see it in the rules.

Manoj.

I gather that this is how they make it "cheat-proof".

Since you are then playing against the GIBS more than your opps, knowing how to "use" them confers an advantage. Winning depends more on luck. The longer term success depends somewhat on your abilities.

I would say that placing depends on about

80% luck of the cards dealt

10% knowledge of GIB

10% bridge playing abilities

Deals are random, different at each table. Using duplicated hands would make it trivial to cheat by colluding with another player.

Arguably, this is less important for Robot Race than for Money Bridge Tourneys.

The conditions of contest for Robot Race can be seen by entering any tourney and clicking on "Tournament Rules". Page 1 is the introduction; Page 2 explains how they work.
