Falsecard position

Recommended Posts

Forgive me if this is old hat, but I have not seen this mandatory falsecard position in any (admittedly limited) literature, and I saw it pull the wool over a declarer's eyes in an otherwise unbeatable contract.

[hv=n=stxx&w=s9xx&e=skj&s=saqxxx]399|300|[/hv]

If this is a layout on a particular trump deal, it seems that, upon leading trump from dummy, it should be a mandatory falsecard for RHO to play the king, similating this layout:

[hv=n=stxx&w=s9xx&e=skj&s=saqxxx]399|300|[/hv]

If declarer believes your card to be honest, he will next lead low to the T (only way to avoid 2 losers if partner had the second hand), giving you a trump trick you didn't deserve.

I don't think there are any layouts other than singleton ace with partner where this will cost, and you will often be able to tell from the bidding if that is a possibility.

I did this recently and partner flew from original Qxx on the lead back to dummy, he thought he could get me in to give him a ruff. He couldn't. Amazing how these things fool people in ways you would never dream. It's still a good play though, I think.

This position came out once to a pard of mine, in the trump suit

[hv=n=s8xx&w=sqxx&e=skj&s=sat9xx]399|300|Trump suit

North leads small[/hv]

East (an excellent player) put in the king, so that after declarer took the ace and played back small, pard could duck to his jack without fear declarer was fooling him with small from AJT9xx.

Of course, West didn't understand this and took the Q, crashing East's jack. East wasn't very pleased.. lol.
