kgr
MP'sE/NSKQ9xxxxx=x=xx=xxI did open this hand 4S at MP's. 2nd hand and Vul against not.- You agree?- Probably worst situation to open 4S or maybe IMP's would be worse?- When is this good enough to open 4S (always when Not Vul, always in 3rd hand, 1st and 3rd hand at MP's...)?Thanks,Koen
han
Agree that I wouldn't do it red against white but that's about the only thing that can keep me from opening 4S.
Guest Jlall
should be a standard 3S in 2nd red/white imo.
whereagles
4♠ any time, baby
Yogeshdg
4♠ in my opinion regardless of who is red or black or green.
Finch
looks like a 3♠ opening in 2nd at red, otherwise 4.
pclayton
red / white I'm not doing it. Just too easy for x - float. I'll do it any other time.
the hog
red / white I'm not doing it. Just too easy for x - float. I'll do it any other time. Agree with Phil.
brianshark
3 red, 4 white pretty much.
jdonn
Agree with 'only 3 red/white'. In fact if forced to choose I would sooner bid 3 all the time than 4 all the time.
655321
Agree with 'only 3 red/white'. But for me, if forced to choose I would bid 4 all the time rather than 3 at any other vul.
Cascade
Its not close to a 4♠ for me. I don't even think it is maximum for 3♠ but that is what I would do.
gnasher
- Probably worst situation to open 4S or maybe IMP's would be worse? It's more dangerous at matchpoints than at IMPs. However, that wouldn't stop me opening 4♠ on this.
kgr
Thanks for the answers. I opened 4S with this hand, but didn't feel comfortable with this bid. Next time I'll probably bid less when Red.x=Kxxxx=xxx=KJxxvsKQ9xxxxx=x=xx=xxBidding did go:(P)-4S-(DBL)-All PassLHO had 4 aces and most of the other points. I was able to make ♣K, but LHO had singleton ♠A. 4♠x -3 was almost a 0%.
P_Marlowe
No, 3S red. vs. green is enough. At any other vulnerability, we can talk about 4S, butit depends on partnership agreement. The classical definition of a vulnerable preempt is at most-2 b, hence you would also open this hand 3S, if all were vulnerable. Know your agreements and you know what you open. With kind regardsMarlowe
Rossoneri
Wouldn't open this 4S red vs green, would open 3S. White vs red 1st/3rd seat is probably fine, maybe 2nd depending on the state of affairs. Incidentally one of my partner opened 4H with AT987xx in hearts and nothing else outside white vs red 1st seat before.
benlessard
Red vs W this is a 3 level preempt Both in imps and in mp you dont want to see partner bid 4S over 4H so often so i would consider to bid 4 directly a really bad mistake. To overbid by 3 trick RvsW clearly doesnt make any sense in any position
