kgr
1♦-2♣2♦-3♣3♠-(DBL)-P-(P)3NT- -We played 2♦ is catch all to deny 15+, 3♣ GF and 3♠ shows stop for 3NT.My partner suggested that Pass (over the DBL) by him asks me to bid 3NT, even without ♥ stop so that DBLer has to lead (he will off course not pass the 3NT without ♥ stop). kgr
I play XX to show what you are talking aboutIs XX better then Pass to ask 3NT?(We play that XX shows 1st control in cue-bidding auctions, so it would be easier to keep same meaning here in case 3S was advanced cue). No idea, never thoguht about it. I'm sure someone will come up with good reasons one way or another but it doesn't matter much probably, just whatever you can remember easiest. Zelandakh
I can see a potential gain from playing Pass as the stopper ask, namely that Opener could use XX to show a half-stopper. What do you play Pass as Justin? and what would a XX response to it be? On a more general point, most seem to play that Pass is stronger than X (or XX) in forcing auctions. On that basis using Pass as 'like 4th suit forcing' and XX as something else (3 ♠s maybe?) seems to make sense and not be very difficult to remember on general bridge grounds. Free
RDbl should show a first round control (the Ace) and lets partner bid 3NT (if you have Qx you better play it there). Pass is imo better to show doubt, because partner can now redouble to ask for half a stopper. This way you and your partner can describe your hands better.
