bb79
as south I'd bid 1nt, then north bids 3nt ... but wait, west leads spade and I'd go down and lose more imps B) I think south's dbl is wrong, not a huge hand and don't have enough support for spades. north's response to dbl is wrong too, should bid 2♥ with 11 hcp. pass of 1♥ is correct. han
Agree with 1NT, my second choice would be 1♦, I would never double. Also agree that north has a 2H bid.
Guest Jlall
South has a crappy 1N bid, but it's still a 1N bid. Some might consider the north hand too strong for 2H and bid 2C, it depends who your partner is and what he might X with, but its def not a 1H bid. P_Marlowe
South should make a 1 NT overcall, what does he want to achieve with the t/o?One should always try to choose the mostdescriptive bid, and this is 1 NT in this case, you have the points, the shape and thestopper, ... perfect. After the t/o South was endplayed. Of course North could have rescued partner,by bidding 2H or 3H, with his 1H reponse heplayed "a death man", but you should not relyon partner to rescue you, if you can do it onyour own. With kind regardsMarlowe
Codo
The double was not good. 1. Choice 1 NT . 2 Choice 1 Diamond , no third choice. But make it QJx, Axx,Qxxxx,AK and double is a possibility, so there is some value in this bid. But not even in north america, where 1 Heart as a response to a double can be quite strong, this is a 1 Heart bid. 1 Heart is simply wrong. 100%. This is no question of judgement or system, it is wrong. The pass of 1 HEart depends on the system, I had passed opposite an european partner with a second of hesitation. Maybe you are getting old and your memory isn´t as good as it was in your younger years? We had the discussion that Americans tend to bid 1 Heart on some hands up to 10 HCPs while the european school is to bid 1 Heart just up to 7 HCPS and jump with more. You will find this in the BBO archives for sure. We discussed it in deepth in 2007. Or is it my memory which failed? Surely always possible, but maybe not this time.
