han
You can assume that double shows the majors and 1NT shows the minors, all other bids are natural.
gwnn
Bob, pass is not a bid. Bids are made of a number of 1 thru 7 and a denomination. Pass, double and redouble are calls.

skjaeran
Three possible calls for me; pass, 2♦ (garbage Multi) and 3♥. The hand isn't close to a 2♥ for me. Normally I'd open 2♦ playing garbage Multi. If not, I'd pass more often than opening 3♥ - who my partner is would affect my decision, also opps and state of the match. Cascade
Bob, pass is not a bid. Bids are made of a number of 1 thru 7 and a denomination. Pass, double and redouble are calls. Now that we are enlightened we need to go back through all of the Bidding Forums in Bridge magazines and give everyone who passed, doubled or redoubled zero since they were supposed to make a BID. Seriously the distinction between bid and call is for the application of the laws. In the vernacular every "call" is a bid. That is all "bids", passes, doubles and redoubles are bids. In the application of the laws it is the opposite "call" is the all inclusive word and so every "bid" is a "call".
rogerclee
OK, so say you pass. Now LHO opens a strong club, partner passes and RHO bids 1D showing a weak hand (I believe 0-5 HCP). What do you do next?Maybe this is inconsistent, but I think I have less to gain by preempting wildly now. 2♥, though; partner's pass should practically promise 2+♥ at all white (unless he is 4144). When they start 1♣-1♦, this is just annoying enough for them to get a couple of decisions wrong without seriously risking anything.
han
I bid 3H on my second turn, although I certainly played with the idea of psyching. Phil had a monster and raised to 4H. They got to 5C which Phil doubled for +300 and some IMPs.
