Neither the Canadian government nor the Canadian Forces announced the new agreement, which was signed Feb. 14 in Texas. The U.S. military's Northern Command, however, publicized the agreement with a statement outlining how its top officer, Gen. Gene Renuart, and Canadian Lt.-Gen. Marc Dumais, head of Canada Command, signed the plan, which allows the military from one nation to support the armed forces of the other nation during a civil emergency. Let's see. The U.S. military cannot be used as a police force within the U.S. - so the solution is to import a military to use as police. I have to call icing on this one. When icing occurs, a linesman stops play. Play is resumed with a faceoff in the defending zone of the team that committed the infraction. It's amazing what a guy can learn by reading the forum. I had heard the term but I thought it meant something different. What is it called if you fall on the puck so that no one can get at it? I had thought that was icing. As to the topic itself, I hadn't even heard of this. In order for the agreement to make any sense I assume that the forces from country X can only perform actions in country Y that country Y's forces are allowed to perform there. Is this not so? It says, from your quote, that they are allowed to support the armed forces of the other country. I don't see this as an agreement to let us send troops into Toronto and burn down York, or for the Canadians to occupy Detroit. Anyway, been there, done that. What is it called if you fall on the puck so that no one can get at it? I had thought that was icing. If you're the goalie that's legal within the goalie box (not the crease, the box is much larger and extends from the rear boards up to and bounded by the faceoff spots). mycroft Posted February 26, 2008 Report Share Posted February 26, 2008 Ah, but the Wikipedia article is referencing international hockey rules, not the NHL's; there, not only does the puck have to cross two red lines without being touched (and not enter the crease), but it has to be touched by a defensive skater. Oh, and the linesman can wave off icing if he believes that a defensive skater could reasonably have taken the puck and instead let it run for icing, and ... Stupid Laws.
