Apollo81
87106AKQ1087542 MPs none vul (1♠)-2♥-(p)-? (once some replies come I will post what happens after various bids, there may be a 2nd decision in some cases)
helene_t
Pass. For 3NT, P would need a double stop in spades unless clubs are running. I gamble that that is not the case, given that I won't find out anyway, and besides the 3-level is not safe.
miguelm
I will assume I am playing with my typical partners who usually make sound 2nd level overcalls. 3C
pclayton
Pass unless 2♠ shows clubs. 3♣ is forcing for me.
jdonn
3♣ whether forcing or not. WTP?
jtfanclub
3♣ is forcing for me. For me, it's a 'reality check', forcing to game if partner had 11+, passable if partner was getting frisky (eg. xx AKJxxx xx xxx). I'm still not strong enough. Cascade
Very very awkward. 3♣ is forcing and after that we will be easily too high if partner is minimum for 2♥. I have long held a view that doesn't come up often. If I am stuck for a bid after partner's two-level overcall assume it is based on a six-card suit if that helps. Here therefore the only bid that fits my range is a heart raise. I might try 3♥.
rogerclee
3♣ whether forcing or not. WTP? This is my reaction as well.
Halo
Pass. Oh.. I think two trumps is useful support for partner's overcall. Speculation on a Q10 suit is not attractive. I don't make a lot of aasumptions about partner's maximum space consuming simple overcall NV at MPs.
655321
Agree with 3♣WTP
kenrexford
I like to have eight clubs to bid 3♣. :) I'll answer the "WTP?" There seems on its face to be no problem. You have seven clubs (that's nice), and you have a landing zone for partner (two hearts with him). You have two assured tricks no matter what (the diamonds), and you have a fairly likely third trick in a heart contract (diamond ruff), with a kicker that the heart pip is the 10. The problem, then? People are apparently wanting to make 2/1 overcalls with hands that should result in a not-even-close pass. That's the problem.

Interesting argument. Have to say that my impression of competition requirements among most of the forum's denizens has been pretty close to tram tickets. I will quietly monitor comparable situations in the posts and see if I have deluded myself.
Apollo81
Part 2: LHO makes the cheapest possible spade bid, partner and RHO pass, your call
Cascade
Part 2: LHO makes the cheapest possible spade bid, partner and RHO pass, your call Partner passes even if I raise hearts?
helene_t
If I passed and LHO bid 2♠, I bid 3♣ now. If I bid 3♥ I double 3♠.
jtfanclub
Part 2: LHO makes the cheapest possible spade bid, partner and RHO pass, your call I pass the first time, 3♣ the second time. Edit- sorry, wrong forum. I'll shut up now.
jdonn
Having bid 3♣ the first time we are only forced to 3♥ as I play so partner's pass over 3♠ is not forcing. So I have an easy pass, expecting down 1 as the most common result.
rogerclee
I bid 3♣ the first time. I'm not so keen to defend w/w at MPs undoubled, and my hand is completely unsuitable for a double, since I'm not even going to get to lead. I think I'll try 4♣ for better or worse. kenrexford
What's the worst hand partner could have? Some garbage like ♠Jxx ♥KQ10xxx ♦Jx ♣KJ? Seems to be. If partner had cause, I think he'd double now. I also pass, expecting a one-trick set frequently, as well, but not frequently enough to double this. pclayton
Since I pass the first time, I am pleased to balance with 3♣. I'm feeling pretty good right about now. What happens over 3♣?
whereagles
Good hand for transfer advances: bid 2♠ and pass pard's 3♣, else keep bidding. With no advances I'll try 3♥. Pard will usually have 6 hearts anyway.
Guest Jlall
I read this thread again and am truly shocked. People do not bid their 7 card suits anymore? I thought this was a terrible problem but I guess it was a very good one, wd noble :)
