Deanrover
It annoys me that when a friend logs on it counts as a "private chat message". I like being informed when a chum logs on, but sometimes I leave BBO whilst working so that I can deal with any enquiries/chat. When I hear a noise I'll look up or change to BBO only to see that a friend has logged in so either i) Friend logging on should be a separate option in the sound menu and/orii) It should make a different noise D
Frosty
I opened this thread with great anticipation hoping to find suggestions to incorporate some FUN sounds at BBO..... I like #smooch, #ahem, #grrrr, #gong, #ring, #doorslamming, #laugh, etc ....... Anyone else? Frosty/Jan

JRG
I'm a Grinch - I turn all the sounds off (I find them annoying). Personally, I would prefer "softer", less intrusive, sounds (then maybe I'd turn some of them on). Deanrover's request is a different kind of animal -- she is using sounds as "an interrupt" so she knows to check something. Her suggestion makes a lot of sense. hallway
I second Deanrover's suggestion. It would be a wonderful thing to be able to distinguish between a message I need to 'down tools' to respond to and that of a friend simply logging in. anssibragge
I second the famous "Me too!". abe PS. It should also be konfigurable whether to get informed of friends logging in or not. And I'd also like to commence again about the multiple friend lists - then the konfigurability would be a triviality requirement :) the same
csdenmark
Record a WAV-file(sound) - rename it and move into your BBO folder for Netsounds. Then your own sound is to be played as the incident is happening. That may be any sound - music or whatever you like.
Gerardo
PS. It should also be konfigurable whether to get informed of friends logging in or not. And I'd also like to commence again about the multiple friend lists - then the konfigurability would be a triviality requirement  It is. Look in your profile, "friends/enemies", "Notify me when a friend logs in"
Frosty
Thanks CS ..... but I really wanted you to be able to hear the GRRR when I growl :D Frosty/Jan
csdenmark
I have never tested Jan but I think if you want me to have your sound on my computer you need to upload your wav-file to WEB. Then I think all will be able to have that as the link might be specified as a link. Else it certainly will be downloadable. The only problem - the sound will then apply not only fx. to your login or so but for login by others too. I only wanted to inform that the default sounds of BBO are possible rather easy to customize. I think it will be possible to find sites on WEB with many kind of sounds exactly like you have many sites providing images, fonts, buttons etc. Such can be downloaded and put into the folder replacing the default sounds. But else you can just record a sound yourself. How about "Gladiators entrance" from Aida every time a friend log in :D .
Frosty
Sorry CS .... I was just pining for a feature of a bridge site where I used to play that provided a set of sounds as part of the software. #Grrrrrr Frosty/Jan
etherwiz
The Chat.Wav is also used for a Friend LogIn wav. I would like to know both, but with out confusing the two. I know there is now NO TIME for what my ex's called "Fun Programmig", but a real neat thing would be for the client program when displaying a chat line and running across a "#" (Pound Sign) with out a space (or Null) after it, would test for the existance of a file in Netsounds named the letters following that "#" (untill the Next space in encountered). If the file exists then play the file, if it does not either print the "#xxxxxx" or don't print it on the chat line (I would perfer printing it in case someone is saying #1 ...................#2...........................#3) either way is fine. We who are writing here can then go find the grrrr, slap, smotches, wolfcry, doorbell, whatever we have the mind to find. We can assemble it and then a standard set of "sounds" can be included in the updates/installs. Doing it this way would allow a club (or group of friends) to send specific files to each other and play them playing with each other. If it got sent to someone else it would just apear as "#xxxxxx" (or not appear as wanted). Perhaps the No Sound option would force an aditional check after the file existance check, if File Exists then If SoundOption = Yes then Play("#xxxxx"). Then EveryOne could Have Whatever Sounds they wanted and not bother BBO with specific requests. But Beware: Like EveryThing Else - there WILL BE PEOPLE who will make Disgusting Sounds. (to me that could be very iinteresting, but I do have both a broad mind and a broad acceptance so what might be "bad" for someone would be either funny or poor taste to me). The Ideal Thing is any objectional sounds could be used - but only by thouse who knowingly load them on thier machine. And a simple library of unoffensive sounds can be supplied with installing BBO. Of course it would add a test for each letter of the chat - but somewhere there is a simple move text routine that be subbed with a test for sound that performs the move to the line display register if not a sound, and calls the play sound rtn if a file exits (and Sounds=On). But maybe not .... Just a more detailed suggustion. _*_Dave
