1) I would open. I have no problem with opening this either 1 or 1, but I'd open 1. I want to get the suit in that I think we're most likely to be able to compete with. That said, I am very worried about getting tapped on this hand.

2) Passsssssssssssssssssssssssssss. Even favorable, bidding is crazy.

(2) Yes, I bid.  Double (only if clearly takeout) is possible

What? You want partner to bid 5?

Probably I would bid 4 instead of double, but double to me is a plausible bid.

No, I don't want partner to bid 5 :)

But, he might pass the double, he might bid 4, or even 5. And if he bid 5 he might have 6 of them. Certainly, we could be in trouble by bidding, but we could also be in trouble by passing. Always a pity to go -420 when you could have gone +420.

WOW. You expect 4♠ to not get doubled?

Perhaps RHO has KQJTx of spades and partner is void. Perhaps partner has AKxx of spades, and they break 2-2. Who knows? :)

But they dealt you 5-5 in the blacks, good playing strength, and it feels very bad to sell out meekly to 4. If I end up going for a number, it won't be the first or the last time, but the IMPS I lose by going for 800 or 1100 are no worse than the IMPS you lose by going -420 or +50 when you are cold for game.

bid loudly both times. :)

1 Club opening ( I know I know I know I know I know (To quote ABBA) nobody opens 1 Club with 5/5 blacks any more. I do.)

After I chickend out first round, 4 Spade now to show a two suiter.

I'd open 1, myself, but I think that I am being sick when I do that.

That said, I have to agree that any action after passing initially must show a two-suiter with terrible spades, IMO.

I might open 1 a lot, actually.

I'd open this 1, playing with my regular partner. If that's no option I pass.

After opening 1 I'll back in with 4.

Having passed originally this is much tougher. I'd probably still come alive with 4, but passing is (much) closer now.
