1-(1)-1NT-P

3NT-All Pass

Rem: Opps do not play WJO's and are not very strong

- What do you think of 1NT and 3NT bids?

LHO leads 8 (standard leads) and RHO takes the T. You let him hold this and he returns the Q. What is your plan?

depends on what standard leads mean, if RHO really has 6 spades we are toasted since he must have opening values for his nont 2 overcall.

inquiry a bit more about the openin lead to find out if LHO can have 3 cards. If he has only 2 our only hope is that East has AQJ10xxQxQJxxx, then we have to take this and playa diamond to the king to cash our nine tricks.

If I don't get a clear answer (very common) duck again and hope they play the suit another time, then play 3 rounds of hearts.

Note I mentioned that opps don't play WJO. So 2 can be 6 card with less then opening values.

Opening lead is most probably from a doubleton. Opps are from French speaking part of Belgium and it is pretty standard there to lead pair/impair (3rd, 5th..) also against NT.

I need Ace onside to have a chance.

I will win 2nd , play a to K.

If lho ducks (better defense imo), then i cash 4 rounds of s, if rho has a hand like this: AQJ10xx 10xx Qx/Jx xx. Rho will be squeezed. For example, if he pitchs two s, i can duck a , either rho or lho will be endplayed.

The choices seem to be hearts 3-3 with the queen with west (18%) or any doubleton or singleton Q (16% + 2%) and the A onside (50%) which appearts to be 18%.

Or the double finesse in hearts (24%) and either hearts 3-3 (36%) or the A onside (50%) which is only around 16-17%.

So it is very close with the first line slightly better.

RHO errored by playing a 2nd Spade. (At the other table our team mates swtiched to H, after which 3NT cannot be made ....I think).

I errored by ducking the 2nd Spade, but RHO continued with a 3rd S (and still not the Ace), which I took with the K.

Then I played 8 and LHO was nice enough to put the T on it...

Not very good play, but 3NT=
