awm
[hv=d=w&v=n&s=sat2hkt63dk6532ca]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] LHO opens 2♠ and this is passed to you. It's IMPs, red vs. white. You're not playing equal level correction doubles. What's your call?
cherdano
I really don't know what is right, but the chances for game seem to be too great to pass this and would double. I would be more likely to pass at MPs and/or white vs red.
Guest Jlall
I'd bid 2N I guess, good problem.
skjaeran
I'll try an offshape 2NT.
Cascade
... good problem. I guess this is equivalent to nasty hand. You have too much to pass but I have no idea what is best. When considering an opening bid we have the philosophy of bidding NTs as often as possible on hands that are balanced or nearly balanced and will be hard to bid so maybe Justin's suggestion of 2NT is best. P_Marlowe
Hi, I would go with pass, butI wont feel happy about it. With kind regardsMarlowe
rogerclee
Nightmare. I think 2NT is best, but I hate it. It seems like we probably need a simulation to settle this.
matmat
can we use a cattle prod on whoever chooses leaping michaels? 2NT, please.
whereagles
Since I got 3 spades, there's not a lot of rush in acting. Pard should be short in spades and he'll balance if we got a game. However, if pard is of the shy variant, I'll dbl. Even despite not playing ELC :)
helene_t
I don't feel strongly about 2N vs pass. Off-shape is not an issue but the values are marginal, IMHO. Dbl with this hand would require ELC, afraid we don't play that (if we did, this one would not be a problem).

whereagles
ah ok... I hate when people say "pass to you". I never quite figure out what that means.. lol Anyway, I still pass if pard is aggressive or dbl if pard is shy.
andy_h
ah ok... I hate when people say "pass to you". I like it when they say "LHO opens 2♠ and this is passed to you" Hmm this is tough. I guess I go with 2NT.

Apollo81
I'd pass. Would double if playing ELC.
kfay
This is definitely a Double for me with ELC. I don't like 2NT at all.
pclayton
4♥ is too likely here opposite the right 8 count. I guess I double but I don't mind 2N.
awm
As a follow-up question, say you double and partner bids either: (1) 2NT lebensohl. (2) 3♣ natural, promising some values (typically 8 with a five-card suit to 11 or so) What's your plan now?

I know this shows extras not playing ELC, but I made a calculated risk when I doubled to find hearts.

awm
At the table, I bid 2NT on this hand with no real confidence. Everyone passed and partner put down: ♠xxx♥x♦Qx♣KT9xxxx We were playing "systems on" so 3♣ would not have been to play. I'm sure that some people would've gambled out 3NT on this partner hand which would have been even less successful. If I had doubled instead of bidding 2NT, partner would be bidding clubs at some level. It's not clear whether partner bids lebensohl or 3♣ or some larger number of clubs (I'm happy to hear opinions on that). In any case, we have no shot at getting to a making spot (3♣ fails on the 4-1 break despite other suits behaving nicely). With diamonds 3-3 and some mild defensive help, I managed to get down one in 2NT for -100. It seems 2♠ is beatable on best defense. Obviously one hand doesn't prove anything, but pass is the big winner this time.
han
2NT is my first preference, pass my second and third is double. If I double then I would definitely bid 3C over lebensohl.

Hate to be a point counter but I can't see showing 8-11 with 5 points. It is very likely from partner's hand that we have some kind of strong hand that is going to X and bid something and very unlikely we have a normal takeout X shape. Partner representing his hand as a non leb will cause us to get overboard very often in those situations.
