finally17
This is perhaps going to sound like a silly question, but someone insists on evidence that their rather ridiculous views are wrong. Please describe responder's hand with as much accuracy as you care in the following 2/1 auction, opps silent, dealer opening: 1♠-2♥-2♠-3♦-3NT AP
rogerclee
5♥, 4-5♦, debatable as to whether or not a hand with 5-4 should show extras. I thought yes, but have now persuaded myself maybe not. (This is assuming 2♥ is a 100% GF. If it is not, then 3♦ can be bid on lots of hands that just have hearts and need to force.) pclayton
This is a very vanilla sequence. I would say responder is probably a 1=5=5=2, 2=5=5=1, 2=5=4=2 or 0=5=5=3 and a few other possible shapes. Roughly 12 - 16 count or so. You can fill in the blanks. 655321
Typical hand might be 5 hearts, 4 diamonds, no club stopper. An example of a hand that would bid this way is x AKJxx KQTx xxx
finally17
This is a very vanilla sequence. Hence the "stupid question" part. However, perhaps the weight of #s will convince where argument failed, so I appreciate the responses :)
gwnn
In a GF auction, everybody bids suits. No question about it. No need for temporizing force. 3♦ is 100% natural. It shows a bunch of diamonds (in this case, 4 or 5), at most equal at length as hearts. ps: 3♦ would show only values if 2♥ wasn't GF. matmat
looks natural to me. probably shouldn't even promise extras
Cascade
looks natural to me. probably shouldn't even promise extras I don't think it can show extras. What else would you bid with 1=5=4=3 or 1=5=5=2 with three-small or two-small clubs?
Guest Jlall
responder has 5+H 4+D and a GF and less than 3 spades.

P_Marlowe
Hi, #1 Your request is nor silly. #2 Usually at least 12HCP, +5 hearts, +4 diamonds (hearts at least as long as diamonds), at most 3 clubs, at most 2 spades, unbalanced +4 diamonds is not 100% clear, in case a 3H bid could be passed, sometimes responder may be forced to invent a bid If 3H cant be passed, this would not be necessary. With kind regardsMarlowe
