Poll: open or not

1. I consider hand 1 slightly too weak to open, however, my 2/1 GF opening style seems to be a lot more conservative than most. I am willing to pass and content that that I'll be in a good position to show my hand later in the auction.

2. Clear opening. The only question is what that opening should be

Hand 1 : 10 HCP but that J is paper, 6 losers and a great shape, 2 quick tricks, this hand is for me a open, it meet most of my requirements to open would prefer to have that J on but then life isn't perfect is it...

Hand 2 : I'm not sure what I should open here, I don't want to bid 1 and find out that they had the partscore I can't open a intermediate 12-15, can can easy overbid my clubs, I don't know what to bid so probably would PASS.

Pedro

not a expert just beginner answer, should I put them in white too :P perhaps.

I (and my partners) would open hand 1 with 1, even if I have a gadget to show a weak hand with both majors (which I do).

I would pass hand 2. The reason?

My partner passed. Therefore, he will not have hand 1. If my partner cannot have hand 1, the odds for a positive score after opening 1 are very small.

If I could open hand 2 with a natural 2, I would consider it, but 1 will invite the opponents in to the action and 3 is a little too rich for me.

So, the bidding with hand 1 and 2 would go:

1-2;

2-3;

3-3;

4

Nice contract! :P

1. At favourable vulnerability I might open something a little worse than this with both majors. I am not entirely sure how this impacts on a 2/1 system but it seems to work for us. Of course there are occasional disasters but white on red the disasters don't cost too much and there are many small and big gains to offset the disasters.

2. Yes I open. We need slightly more to open 3 but I might upgrade otherwise 1 for me.

1. 1

2. 3*

*3NT is not an option unless partner forgot to open with AAA or some AA-K combination.

Roland

or a 10xx A A combination.

or a xxxx A A combo.

Note also that pard will PULL 3NT without 2 aces, so it's a fairly safe bid, the only risk being going 1 down in 4.

Some people play 3N in 3/4 seat cannot be pulled. That is how I play.

When I play Gambling 3N, this is how I play it as well. The restriction on no A/K is only in 1/2.
