inquiry
Hi Marc, The cheesy text to lin coverter is designed to create a one page document. As you will see it creates a little bit of code at the beginning. The very code it uses is the bt() command which displays a single empty white page. That is, not bridge table is shown, and no cards. You can (and should) change the part of the text reads "DOCUMENT TITLE" with the name of you tournment. So call it something like "A Bridge Too Far Condition of Contest" . The combined command mn(A bridge to far) and tu(1) will create a box with a the title in it on the top of the page. Any text you type between after the nt( at the end of the first line will show up in the lin file. Be certain not to delete the last vertical line at the end of the file (see it down there near the bottom?). And don't use those kind of vertical bars in your text. If you cut an paste a bridge movie into this file, bad things will happen becuase a bridge movie begins with some of these commands and you will get one of the vertical bars before you need it and this will no doubt cause problems. Text to lin cheese converter is made to enter plain text. For instance, cut and paste this message on the second line and of the converter and see what you create when you then select all that message and save as a *.lin file Ben
spwdo
hi ben, was a difficult birth lol but i thx to u somehow managed , seems easy now, must admit i was first trying it with notepad instaed of wordpad:wacko:, for any one else wants to use this:open any linfile(the files with bbo logo in your pc) with wordpad/word, the control+a, delete it , then take your converted text and copy it in linfile and click save as linfile.converter is found in the link below   http://online.bridgebase.com/customer_utilities/txt2lin.php thx Edited February 7, 2008 by uday
uday
The cheesy converter will handle multiple pages; all it does is break up the incoming plaintext with appropriate LIN pagebreaks or whatever. I guess I could have mentioned the title  and that the lines cant be too wide - the client cuts them off at some point
McBruce
Worked fine for me. I copied the text and pasted it into a text editor and saved as a .lin file, then uploaded. No problems!
uday
If you bracket a piece of text with special sequences, you'll find that the text will be clickable. prefix= ^*Hsuffix=^*N for instance, the link members.shaw.ca/ooga/alphacocs.htm can be made clickable by using ^*Hmembers.shaw.ca/ooga/alphacocs.htm^*N
McBruce
What is this, Jeopardy? Now Uday is answering questions I am ABOUT to ask. (Thanks very much!) :)
spwdo
hi, lol, uday way ahead of us, knows what we gonna ask next and all, saves us typing questions:) marc
McBruce
ALERT! I uploaded the link almost as suggested by Uday. I added the prefix http:// This was not a success--when I tested it out it took me to Microsoft's home page! I assume the .lin format assumes that such a web address will begin with http:// Editing to Uday's format made it work fine.
McBruce
Maybe the real question here is why typing this in your address bar: http://http:// ...takes you to Microsoft's home page: even from my current browser-of-choice which is not IE but Mozilla Firebird!!
