Forgetting our agreements is not new to all of us :lol: . So many truth in joke: "Expert is player who all time forget something about his agreements :P ". I have a friend, Marian ( BBO nick name Marit ), very intelligent and clever guy, who helps me a lot with development of "system of the future" NTC. He said once: "Very expirienced player is like a full glass of water, if you try to add more in it (new ideas) they short float at the surface and soon spill over". luke warm Posted February 29, 2004 Report Share Posted February 29, 2004 i voted 3♠, mainly because i don't have any real reason to think 3♦ won't make.. i disagree that the ♣Q is a useful card, i think it's dead... i'm also not confident the ♦K will survive... all in all, i think it's best to bid here than not... on 2nd thought, i probably would have bid 2♠ to start with (for some reason my mind just skipped over that option)... on 3rd thought, 2♠ seems obviously better... 5 hcp, a 5th club, yeah i'm changing my vote :) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I'd bid 3NT, but since it isn't an option I guess it would turn out extremely awful. I would have definitely responded on the firsrt round itself. If not 2S, then a forcing NT and 2S rebid. On the given auction, I am a little scared. Where are the hearts? Partner is likely to have atleast 3 of them and that leaves him with 3-4 cards in minors. The diamond suit could easily provide 5/6 tricks and it does not look likely that we will be able to defeat 4D. My choice would depend mainly on the style of my opponents. Are they aggressive or do they believe in playing conservative in MPs (not bidding thin games). This is a hand where opponents could easily be making 3NT/5D. I am scared of bidding 3S and finding LHO making some sort of extra value double (definitely will not let us play 3S and on the way to 4D no harm in showing some extras). On the other hand with no competition, LHO may not want to commit to 4D by making some game try and thus not investigate further possibility of a game. I will probably pass now. I not in favor of using 1NT followed by 2♠ as weak hand and ♠ support. I want to show my support right away. So I would have felt much better if I could have raised immediately without exciting partner. That is, I like 1♠-2♠ as "preemptive" just as 1♠-3♠ is when you use bergen raises.... Next, since I didn't raise partner the first time, and he bravely bid 2♠ all by himself, I am certain he has at least 6♠ and fair offensive hand despite the limited nature of the 1♠ bid. At imps I would pass. The ♦K and ♣Q maybe good on defense and questionable on offense. I really don't expect to make 3♠, although it will probably make between 7 and 9 tricks. At imps, -110 versus -100 for 3♠x makes not much difference. In fact they may not double 3♠. But at matchpoints, the difference between -110 and -100 can be huge. So huge in fact, they might not stop to double at all, pushing instead to 4♦ and we might change -110 into +100. So at mp, I would, reluctantly, bid 3♠ now. Ben No Ben, I did not miss that inference. Allthough it's been over 25 year since I played Percision, I would suspect that partner would compete with a good 6 card suit and a good 11-13 hcp.
