mr1303
Not sure what's going on either, but I wack this either way. If it makes, I'm a Dutchman (I'm quoting someone here, and I can't remember who it was or the context, except that it referred to a bridge contract, and don't intend any offence to anyone or any nation). bhall
I suspect that responder has a ♥ void and very, very long ♠. I would have preferred to bid 3N over 3♥, but now I don't know what's right. To avoid the possibility of a huge swing, 4N is the obvious choice, and I would probably try that at the table. I know, I'm chicken, and I will probably "hear it" from my teammates in the post mortem. But the double came nowhere near showing my values, and partner did not double 4♠. So, where is his 3♣ call, if not long, strong ♣ and the ♦A?
han
Agree with the first double, I would double again. Why does Apollo get all the interesting bridge hands?
skjaeran
Agree with the double. Looks like LHO expect to make this, or that it's a very cheap save. I'm bidding 4NT now. Either we can make that or it can be a good save vs a making 4♠.
pclayton
Why wouldn't I overcall 2♥ with this? This is a weird auction. I don't understand why LHO didn't bid 4♠ the first time. I expect pard to have a fair hand for overcalling ♣, so double looks safe. I don't expect them to make.
helene_t
Would have overcalled 2♥ but can live with pass. Don't think the first double is penalty and would have bid 3N. Now double.
jdonn
Seems like obvious overcall the first time. Now that I have passed and seen RHO has hearts and partner has an overcall, I never stop doubling again.

Cascade
Its not clear to me that double of 3♥ is penalty why wouldn't it be competitive suggesting spades or some other contract?
whereagles
Guess I'd score -790 on this one :)

whereagles
very nice bid, the 2♠. i've never seen it. wdo well, that's the usual way to play in your suit after a multi: bid suit and rebid it after pard corrects.

Gerben42
I'm Dutch so I wouldn't have fallen for this one :) PASS, 4♠ shows about 5 zillion Spades. Responder was just "gathering information" just in case he would need some while declaring 4♠.

Guest Jlall
I love being the guy who sees the results and then makes the double dummy action but... I would pass. They will never go down more than 1 on this. The opps are bidding strongly and they just jump to 4S, they have a LOT of them. Partner didn't even double them. Partner does not have a lot of tricks. You really should pass imo. BTW I had a hand in the cavendish where I had 8 spades. LHO opened 1N and partner Xed showing C+H or D+S. RHO XXed. I bid 2D pass or correct, LHO Xed, partner bid 2H, RHO Xed, I bid 2S, and the opps got caught in rhythm when they really shouldnt. I made an overtrick I think. This auction is WAY more obvious because the guy JUMPED lol.
bhall
Well, I got responder's hand about right. I sure hope that partner runs if responder doubles; otherwise, I have created a worse disaster (down 6). 5♣X appears to be only down 2. If I had bid 3N over 3♥, I might feel justified in passing 4♠. But I doubt it.

Hmm, I am sure if you gave this hand as a BBF poll asking for the right strategy you would get many comments "getting slowly to 2S might work against weak opponents, but in a decent field (adv+) I would rather preempt to 3S right away." whereagles
justin, I don't think pass can be right. I think it's pretty clear either opps are stealing or our side has a good save. We just have to guess which... lol. Pass is gambling they're going down vs nothing. That's hardly expectable. (Can happen of course, but I wouldn't count on it..)
