Apollo81
red vs white imps AJxxAxAQxxKxx (1♣)*-1NT-(p)-2♣**(Dbl)-2♦-(3♣)-p***(p)-3♦-(4♣)-p(p)-? * could be short as 2** relay to 2d, to sign off or to start various inv/GF auctions*** shows the diamond signoff Opps are expert+ level. Bonus question: Do you agree with the 1NT overcall?

matmat
1N seems fine. i'd prefer to have a second club stop, but that's just a personal preference. i might have considered 3NT over the 3♣ bid; I can count to 8 tricks,9 on a club lead, assuming p wouldn't try to sign off on 6 itty bitty diamonds or on only 5. it would be useful to know what sort of ♦ holding is expected. now it gets tough. X,P,4♦, 4NT ...ughsounds like a diamond void on my left, X might not work out so well. i'll try 4♦ and see if p can find enough extras to bid 5. andy_h
Agree with 1NT. And no, I'm not doubling. Hmm what is 1C (1NT) 2C for the opponents? If LHO has D void why didn't he bid..
han
1NT is automatic, what else are you going to do? Passing out of personal preference is for those who prefer to lose. I'd pass now, we might beat it a trick, they might make it.
Guest Jlall
auto 1N, auto pass. This is imps, you have pushed them to 4C, hope you beat them a trick now.

Apollo81
ok everyone agrees with 1N and pass, which is what I did this was the auction at the other table (1c)-X-(1h)-p(1n)-X-(2c)-4s wtf! pard has xxxx KJx 1098xx x, I think, and 4s was cold, 4c going off three

Cascade
1NT seems very normal. Now partner knows I am strong balanced with a diamond fit and a reason to bid at the three-level and wasn't willing to compete to four. I pass its partner's decision. Partner knows much more about my hand than I know about his.
Apollo81
Perhaps your pard should have doubled 4♣'s since all pard has promised is a yarb with 5 diamonds. Then he will catch me with KJxx xx AKJx Axx or some other hand where they rate to make which would be 100% consistent with this auction. If anyone has to double it's me since I have three aces and a guaranteed trump trick. This was early in Q2 of a 48 board match, and it was tied at the time. Had it been later in the match (we were down a little heading into Q4) I probably would have doubled.
