I hate 4H at any form of scoring.

First choice is 3, second is 3. One shows the third club, the other the fifth diamond.

3, the only other call I considered was 3.

I don't understand the criticism of 2. Is there anyone out there who seriously thinks this is a gf?? For those who do, I suggest you run a simulation giving partner no more than 2s and 4+ spades with 5-7 hcp and see how you like your auctions now.

I bid 3 because partner will often have preferenced to 2 with 3s: thus Kxxxx Qx Qxx Qxx is, to me, an automatic 2.. and the knowledge of a 5th diamond in a hand with game interest will be more useful than 3 which is somewhere between ambiguous and misleading re club length, while essentially denying the 5th diamond.

I like to follow the rule of 12..if there is a bid you can make that describes 12 of your cards, make it. That has always been my justification for bidding 3C instead of 3D in situations like this. I really doubt it makes much difference as long as you choose one of the 2. Your 2D bid was perfect.

3 seems fine. I would probably bid 3 instead with one club honor being in either other suit instead.

Also 2 rebid is the most normal rebid I've ever seen. Aside from not quite being good enough for 3, you lose the chance to make a third rebid showing your shape forever, and you have a void in the suit partner bid. Not close.

This was the actual hand -

[hv=n=shak8xxdkj9xxcakx&s=saj98xhxxdcqt8xxx]133|200|[/hv]

3N or 5 were good places, and even 6 might be possible with a slightly better responder or some luck. Seems hard to get to clubs at all if one chooses a 3 rebid at either opener's first or second turn and we might miss game too (stopping in 3 or 3 sometimes). 3 on the other hand seems at least to move the auction in the right direction.

PS For Ken's 4 blast, I've got this slightly different one :D

Yep. I probably make 4 at IMPs.

As to the "part two" 5116 -- 2.

I played with a random yesterday. He held Axxxx, x, QJTxxx, x.

Auction started 1 - 1 - 2. He found the genius rebid of 2. Whats more amazing is that he didn't run to 3 after it was smacked.

I held: x, KQJTx Ax Jxxxx.

First hand

[hv=d=&v=&s=saj98xhxdxcqt8xxx]133|100|[/hv]

Second hand.

[hv=d=&v=&s=saj98xhxdxcqt8xxx]133|100|[/hv]

These two hands are not the same.

(besides, I hate to disagree with cherdano)
