hrothgar
You hold ♠ AKQ75♥ A75♦ T7♣ K64 RHO opens 1♣. What's your bidding plan?
inquiry
i overcall 1♠. I do not object to a 1NT overcall instead.
Guest Jlall
1S. I do object to a 1N overcall :)
kfay
1♠ for me. Then I looked at the poll and 1NT, being suggested, became attractive. But my initial thought was 1♠ so that's what I'm bidding. I couldn't be swayed.
jdonn
1♠, and I hate 1NT a lot, to me it's a clear error.
cjames
1♠, 1NT on this hand is not my style.
pclayton
1♠ or the double / x♠'s route. I don't have a strong preference really. Personally I think this hand is better than a 16 count. A 1N overcall looks kind of weird to me.
skjaeran
1♠ for me. Not close to x..♠. Too much potential for 1NT.
Cascade
1♠ a good near maximum overcall. I was about to say maximum but I have been experimenting with better and better maximums for one-level overcalls mainly with success lately. 1NT seems wrong to me with only one club stopper and great spades. If my suits were something like ♠KJxxx and ♣AQJ maybe with a compensating value elsewhere then I would be happier with 1NT.
mikeh
1♠, and I hate 1NT a lot, to me it's a clear error.agreed: the worst kind of hand-hogging pseudo-expert call :o
han
1S, again looking forward to the story.
655321
1♠ I don't hate 1NT as much as most of the other posters, in fact I don't mind it at all.1NT is often a better overcall than 1M when the hand is in range. On this particular hand the factor swaying me to 1♠ is that we have no lead value at all. (If game is on,) by overcalling 1♠ we can end in 4♠ when partner has a shortage, but sometimes we may be able to play 3NT from partner's hand. MFA
1♠.But I can live with 1NT and X + spades.
P_Marlowe
Hi, 1S, 1NT being the alternative. I used to play, that overcalls are limited in strength, the upper limit was somewhere around 15HCP.It did work, but maybe thats just my memory, and Iwont feel happy, if I have to introduce spades on the3 level. With kind regardsMarlowe
cherdano
My plan is to show my club stopper if partner makes any encouraging bid. (After I have overcalled 1♠, of course.)
Cascade
My plan is to show my club stopper if partner makes any encouraging bid. (After I have overcalled 1♠, of course.) One stopper might not be enough. If I overcall spades and rebid 2NT or 3NT partner might expect something more like ♣AQx or ♣KJT. Perhaps a better route would be to overcall spades and then make a directional asking cue-bid. This might be more difficult if partner raises spades where a cue could be misunderstood as being more interested simply in some greater number of spades. jdeegan
B) 1♠.Seems like the obvious bid. No doubt, some other call works better on the actual hand (else why is it here?), but absent some (unexpected) brilliant analysis, I have to go with what I'm looking at in front of me. dake50
X, then 2C over 1H, 1D. Then 2S. Get 2H=5cH rebid =GREAT; Get 1N/2N=C-stop rebid =GREAT; Else = "I have spades" and 16 prime points. Partner hasn't helped this time.
