I don't really remember the hand since it wasn't played but lefty had about 11.5 HCP with ♠KJxxx and righty had ♠Ax, but that's all I know. If the opps are say, the worst opps at the club then I think opening is clear since you have so much equity in competitive bidding/card play vs them. If RHO is an aggressive pro and pard is sound then opening might be right since he passed in third seat and pard might have passed a good hand. Good choice imo. If partner is a weak player that is another very good reason to pass. Sounds like you had the perfect conditions in place for a pass.
