655321
Partner has made a takeout double, so I take it out.2♠. If partner's double is penalty, I pass.
TylerE
Well, that's really the question... Lacking a specific agreement, what is P likely to have for the 2nd double?
rogerclee
Well, that's really the question... Lacking a specific agreement, what is P likely to have for the 2nd double? I'm not sure there is a standard here. There are some people I play with where I wouldn't even dream this is a penalty double, and there are some where I would suspect it is. Anyway, I bid 2♠. Passing is too risky for me if I don't even know what partner's x is. If I knew it was penalty, I would pass, since I have two trumps I didn't promise. I don't have great experiences passing out penalty doubles like this, though, so I could be easily convinced that 2♠ is better anyway. Codo
I pass because I have the rule that any x after a penalty double is for penalty.Am I happy? No not at all, but I do not see why I should be happier in another suit.
P_Marlowe
Hi, depends on partnership agreement,I believe that partners double isfor t/o, hence I bid 2S, but I have tocheck, ... and I may well be wrong. With kind regardsMarlowe
whereagles
You can play dbl as penalties, but I don't think that's technically the best.
Fluffy
penalty double by my agreements, and pass nowm frightened, but pass. Hopefully 2♦ wasn't really transfer.
brianshark
It looks like a penalty double situation to me. Don't know whether I'd leave it. I guess I have no choice but to leave it in.
helene_t
Must be t/o for the same reason as why most low-level doubles are for t/o: p is more likely to have a hand suited for t/o than for penalties, and also it is more important that he can bid something if he has a t/o double. With a hand suited for penalty double he can pass, or bid 3NT is he really has to.
Apollo81
I'd bid 2♠. I would tend to interpret this double as takeout if undiscussed, and although that is less likely here, it's certainly not a lock that pard has a penalty double and I think there's a small chance 2♥ may make even if this is the case. Roupoil
I bid 2♠. Second double is takeout for me, and event if it isn't, I would be very scared to play 2♥X, more to lose than to gain IMO.
