I wonder if p might have been creative with something like

AKx-AKx-x-KQJxxx

I seem to recall a poll where several forum experts rebid 1 with such a hand (assuming it is forcing).

I think I pass. Looks silly if 6 is meant as a subtle GS try for spades, but it must be a natural bid. And I do have excellent clubs support.

But on second thought, I can't see why it'd be better to play in clubs than spades. You aren't going to have pitches. Maybe if partner has AKJx --- Ax KQJTxxx or something....but what is 1S then lol.

I am back to my original thinking, I guess I'll pass. Really this is insane by your partner.

What can pards shape be? 1 is not forcing.

Can he be 5=(0/1)=7

with AK in spades and KQJ in Clubs?

If so I think he would not bid 1 and risk that being passed out. He would jump shift to 2.

So he is not 7-5-1-0

Then what?

6-4-?-?

Then he must have additional honors in the reds

He bid slam not knowing about my Club ace?

I dont understand the bidding.

Normally I would think it better to play in 6 because of the 4-4 fit.

Pard should expect us to have 4 Spades if we raised his 2nd bid.

He is offering us a choice of slams?

I think 6 is the right bid, because he can get discards on teh clubs, and we can ruff one or two if needed.

A clear no problem hand in the old days when you could hear how forceful that 6C bid was  Today however it is a complete new world and I wonder if bozo the blasting bidder is going to advance with 7C over my 6S at which point he will reach another grand in the big black suit.

1S is NF and if the guy has some 3 card suit I could care less as they will just have to hope S split. Justin is explains this is insanity, a diplomatic way of putting things.

I pass. I would never bid 1 on less than four myself (please withhold your sterling examples where all other bids suck), but at some point partner is simply on his own and I think we have reached that point.

100% agree.

me too

1-1

1-2

4-4

6-6

6NT-swish (!)

Ace of diamonds lead....

pard confirmed after the hand that he knew 1 was nonforcing.

I actually don't blame him that much. The lack of a way to bid strong twos in US systems drives people to "fabricate" suits.

But yeah, I agree his "solution" may rank high on imagination but scores zero on practicality. (What's wrong with a mild underbid of 3?? The suit isn't even that great.)
