sceptic
I was tempted to bid 1 heart, decided against it as opps would get in or we have a major misfit I was also tempted to bid 4 hearts, I thought this would just give opps 4 spade contract or what ever else they may have I was tempted to bid 2 clubs and wish I had now 2 loser hand so I went for a 6 heart bid what do you think of 6 hearts and how would you bid it [hv=d=w&v=n&n=saj2hatdkt52cj962&w=shkq9876542daq84c&e=skq6543hdjct87543&s=st987hj3d9763cakq]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] West North East South 6♥ Dbl RDbl Pass Pass Pass
Finch
I would open 1H. Longest suit at the lowest level...
Guest Jlall
6H is the kind of bid I make when playing with caddys in midnight games. I actually think it works a lot, but it is a huge crap shoot. The best time to do it would be very weak partner, very good opps. In general in normal circumstances if you think you will win or even be average minus long term you don't want to take a gamble like this and I would just try 1H. I do think this 6H bid will work more often than people think. Also if you are trying to learn and improve then I would never make this bid, you want to learn how to win by doing normal things rather than high variance negative expectation things. P_Marlowe
Hi, Open either 1H or 4H, intending to bid 5H over 4S.Most of the time it wont matter, you wont be able to sell this hand to partner. The adv. of 1H is, that the bidding may help you to decide, if bidding 6H is a good bet, partner may bid spades and clubs, or the opponents.Bidding 4H has the advantage, that you will be done with hand quickly, ... my choice, I am quite lazy. A 2C opening will only help you, if you happen to play something like Albaran (?!), in which case you may learn about responders key cards on a low level, ... provided the oppoents dont interfere. With kind regardsMarlowe
firmit
I would open 1♥, however 5♥ is tempting - 11 tricks, denying AK in hearts asking partner to bid one level up for each of them. I'd say this is better than opening 6♥, but I am also lying with actual hand. Switch clubs and diamonds in responder's hand - and any pre-empt is really destructive. But - then again - I don't know...
whereagles
I don't believe in opening this at the 1-level, so I would open 5♥. Rdbl was a death wish, clearly motivated by a dislike of the opener and perhaps a couple whiskeys too much :) Note, however, that a simple and straightforward 4♥ opener would probably have stolen the pot!! EricK
That's unlucky. 6♥ looks to be a make opposite either of the NS hands.
