the hog
1D. Don't object violently to 2NT though.
Guest Jlall
1D, this hand is too suit oriented for 2N. We don't particularly need to play it and have a great hand for 6D etc.
cjames
I think a 1♦ opening will show this hand in a better way then a 2NT opening.
whereagles
Prefer 1♦ too.
Fluffy
the honnor alocation means 2 suited hand, not balanced, so 1♦
CSGibson
ok, just checking. 1♦ was, of course, passed out, and at the other table 4 spades made after a 2NT opener, which received a transfer into spades, superaccepted. Partner has a 1 count with 5 spades to the 9 and a stiff diamond.
pclayton
1♦ - 80% of points in our long suits. Not close.

mikestar
I vote 1♦ as least of evils, but 2/1 can't handle this hand type well at all:1♦ can get passed. (If not, you get burned responding on 5 to the Jack opposite a 16 count on a different hand.)2NT is right on values, wrong on orientation and shape.2♣ is under strength for a primary minor hand, and will lose a 4-4 spade fit.Precision anyone?
